19 - 21st March 2010
The event kicked off on Friday night with a private cocktail party—this was a lavish black tie affair, everyone rose to the occasion and looked suitably glamorous.
The catering company (Prestige Event Hire) provided delicious finger food in vast quantities and the champagne flowed suitably freely on the night. Vinyl Tonic (the band) had the dance floor jam packed for the entire night and everyone who was there, said they had the best time.
Despite the partying the night before, competitors and horses alike were up bright and early on Saturday morning looking poised, elegant and ready to shine—and shine they did. There were some beautifully turned out pairs and beautifully ridden tests, and from early on the competition was clearly going to be tough!
The MecWorma (International Animal Health) Young Event Horse was judged on Saturday and the entries proved that as always, standards are very high.
The delightful Equissage ladies were kept busy on Saturday talking to everyone about the amazing results that the Equissage massage pads can achieve and doing demonstrations on competitors horses—and the horses looked like they loved every minute of being massaged !!
Sunday was a very exciting day of thrills and spills. The Cross country course proved to be tricky and challenged even the most competent horses and riders.
Lunch time saw the sponsors and VIP’s gather in the beautiful white marquee for the VIP lunch, where Angela Anker and Heather Dynes had the opportunity to mingle and thank old sponsors and meet and welcome new ones.
The afternoon would not be the same without the 7 Eleven Shetland Grand National which is a highlight every year, and this was followed by the prize giving—riders receiving a wonderful array of prizes in cash and kind due to our very generous sponsors , without whom the event would not have been such a success!
The day concluded with the raffle draw and cutting of the cake to celebrate 30 years of eventing at Wandin Park and a toast to the next 30!
